Freestyle Rap Collabs Are Taking #nanaFreestyleFriday To The Next Level.
Oct. 25, 2017
Do you remember when we said that we were going to feature someone if we get more than 3000 tracks posted to the "#nanaFreestyleFriday" in September? Well, We ended up getting way more than 3000 Freestyle tracks in September and this campaign became a big success for us. THANK YOU SO MUCH, GUYS.
If you don't know what I am talking about, you might want to check this page out to learn what "#nanaFreestyleFiday" is first...
And one of the tracks attracted our attention was this rap collaboration.
You hear many Hip-hop team-up songs all the time. It's a trend in the United States. Take a look at any Top 100 Songs chart you can find right now. You will be surprised how many songs on the chart are those collaborative ones. For example, earlier this year Dj Khaled dropped his 10th album which was an all-star tracklist collaborated by some of the industry's big names and some of the millennials stars and needless to say, this album was a big hit.
But why did this rap collab capture our attention?
It's simply because we'd never really had it before. People have been making duets, adding chorus to existing songs and so on. But this "collab" didn't seem to be a familiar thing for our Hip-Hop users. And this track was made by 6 people. With the 90 seconds recording time duration, how?why?...
So we reached out to one of the users to find it out.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
"I am 28 years old and I live in Missouri, United States. I started making beats when I was around 17 years old and started rapping when I was about 20 years old. I have always liked Hip Hop and R&B. But I also enjoy listening to different types of music.
So how did you come across nana app?"One day, I accidentally lost my notebook of rhymes that I put so much work into and it was right before I was finally going to record in a studio. I was really disappointed. I felt like giving up on music. I got really discouraged.
A while after the accident, I just started looking for a music app to mess with. Nothing serious but just for fun. I guess my passion for music never died. So I typed in a Recording Music App or something like that and found nana app."
How did you get into it?
"At first, I didn't know how to use this app but it didn't take a while to figure it out. I just experimented. I used to just post whatever I recorded. And one day I found out about the collab function and I just tried it. It was interesting you know.
And I got more likes, comments and followers... It became fun.
I also created a community for people who like Hip-Hop & R&B like myself to talk about beats, collabs and stuff. It's been fun. Connecting with talented people, creating something together.. It's cool."
"Now I check nana app almost every day. To listen to others, find talents and stuff... I post my recordings when I have time at home. "
What inspired you to make this Rap collab? How did it happen?
"I heard the beats MASTERPIECE made and I liked it a lot so I just posted it on the community. And it started going on. Others did their own part and got right on it. We only communicated on the community. It was very spontaneous."
"I think it only took 3-4 hours for this collab to be done. This is why I like listening to others on nana app because sometimes you find cool artists and you can collab with them and just have fun with it."
What advice would you give to our new Freestylers to be successful on nana?
"Just do whatever you feel. Do you. Writing it down before recording helps. I do it too! But I think the important thing is just to feel. It doesn't matter if people are gonna like it or not. At the end of the day, it's about how you enjoy it."
Thank you so much Yetti!"Wait, One more thing. I want to give a shoutout to two that help me out a lot with the lab... zaazriel and Young Legend! These two really keep me going. "
